Mitch Tambo

Australian World Music Star Mitch Tambo is a "new voice for a generation," producing music that bridges cultures and resonates globally. His debut album Guurama-Li,  achieved remarkable success, topping the iTunes Worldwide charts in multiple countries: #1 in Australia, Denmark, and Malta, #2 in the UK, and #34 in the US. His rendition of You’re the Voice recently surpassed 1 million streams, marking the first time a song in the Gamilaraay language has reached this milestone.

As a Sony Music Australia recording artist, Mitch released a string of hit songs, including You’re The Voice, Together, Love, Absolutely Everybody, Dreamtime Princess, Heal, Great Southern Land, Silent Night, Yugal Yulu-gi, and Away in a Manger. Each track climbed to #1 on the iTunes World Music Charts, solidifying his status as Australia’s premier World Music Star. Now thriving as an independent artist under his label, Walanbaa Music, Mitch continues to innovate. In 2024, he released Tambo Jamz Vol. 1, a genre-defying 60-track instrumental project that garnered attention on local and international radio. That same year, he released his 12th consecutive Australian iTunes Worldwide hit, a reimagined version of Tina Turner’s classic The Best. In 2025 he received widespread acclaim for his duet of My Island Home with his wife, singer Voice of Lele, plus his solo version of the song. He also released a reimagined version of the Local Knowledge classic Blackfellas, alongside Street Warriors and Jamahl Yami.

Mitch’s exceptional talent has earned him several prestigious award nominations, including New Talent of the Year at the NIMAs, two Golden Guitar Awards for Vocal Collaboration of the Year and Heritage Song of the Year for his work on Come Together with Lee Kernaghan and Isaiah Firebrace, as well as Best Pop Work and the MAV Diasporas Award at the Music Victoria Awards.

On stage, Mitch’s performances are electrifying, blending contemporary music with First Nations culture in a way that captivates audiences. He has performed at significant events and venues worldwide, including the canonisation of Saint Mary MacKillop, Expo 2020 in Dubai, the Australian Commercial Radio Awards, the Langkawi Island Music Festival, the Melbourne Didgeridoo Festival, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the Australian Open, the Rugby World Cup, the T20, Commerical Radio Awards, the NRL Indigenous All Stars, Carols by Candlelight, and the 50th anniversary of Australia-Vietnam relations at the Opera House in Ho Chi Minh City. A career highlight was his unforgettable performance at the Fire Fight concert, where he closed the event with a stirring rendition of You’re the Voice, sharing the stage with legends  John Farnham, Olivia Newton-John, and Queen's Brian May.

In 2023, Mitch embarked on a national tour, collaborating with the creative team behind Burn the Floor. The resulting production, Burn the Floor: Walanbaa Yulu-gi, broke new ground by merging First Nations culture and music with ballroom and Latin dance styles, creating an inspirational and genre-defying experience.  The production received rave reviews from both critics and fans alike.

Beyond music, Mitch is a skilled presenter and advocate. He has hosted Blak Excellence for Meta, the Yarning Strong series both online and live, and the children’s TV series MusoMagic Outback Tracks, which celebrates positive stories in remote Aboriginal communities. He has also lent his voice to Tez the Echidna in an Outback Christmas episode. As a qualified social worker, Mitch is deeply committed to diversity awareness and regularly contributes as an opinion leader through broadcast interviews, articles, and podcasts. His voice has been featured on all major Australian TV networks and across top-tier media outlets.
