Garret Lyon is a proud Darumbal and Wulli-Wulli singer, songwriter, and dancer from Central Queensland's Darumbal country. He commands the stage with his dynamic performances, blending powerful vocals and captivating dance moves.
Garret's journey in the performing arts took a significant leap forward when he moved to Brisbane to study at The Aboriginal Centre for the Performing Arts (ACPA). He trained under renowned directors such as Leah Purcell, Wesley Enoch, Sue Rider, and Broadway's Stephen Helper there. He toured extensively around Australia during his studies, showcasing his original music at prominent events like the NRL Indigenous All-Stars Games. Garret also choreographed and co-hosted NITV's "Move It Mob Style."
After earning an advanced diploma in music, Garret secured his first professional lead role as Aladdin in OzWorks' "Aladdin: The Flying Magic Carpet Show," which enjoyed a successful three-week run in Jakarta, Indonesia. Returning to Australia, he joined Oscar Proco as a featured vocalist and dancer in the gender-bent cabaret "Boy&Girl," participating in four seasons of the show and living his dream of a pop star lifestyle.
Garret's work with Oscar Proco allowed him to refine his stage presence and embrace his more feminine side, opening new avenues in his performance repertoire. He released his debut EP, "Belong To You," and was part of the opening act for TLC's Australian tour. Later, he moved to Melbourne, where he delved into music production and received a grant from the City of Melbourne to create his live cabaret show "Crazy In Love" for the YIRRAMBOI Festival.
Garret was also cast as ASAKA in Altitude Theatre's "Once On This Island," directed by Bree Langridge. He eventually returned to Brisbane, resuming his career with live music gigs and theatre roles. In 2021, QPAC commissioned him to produce "Biggest Mob Love," a sequel to "Crazy In Love," featuring a live band performing original stories and songs that have shaped his musical journey.
Garret has collaborated with industry giants such as Bernard Fanning, Troy Cassar-Daley, and Joss Stone. Committed to cultural protocol, he teaches music and dance to youth in Indigenous communities. His recent R&B/Pop single, "Circles," has garnered over 30,000 streams on Spotify, and he continues to work on new music and collaborations, advancing his influence in the industry.
